Notation: on 9/12/86, RH Beeby, founder fo the Order and the original Golden Mallet, returned to the field of play to provide needed stimulus and leadership for revival of active competition. As expected, the founder won the season opener (conducted at the latest date ever experienced). The weather was cold, the light dim, the ground wet, but the touch was still there.

At Old #5 TDB hit his ball (a “wet course” #1) so that it glanced off the top of the ball (“dry course” #3) of TCB & went through on his 1st attempt.
TDB went on to victory against TCB & LEB*.

In the 1st game of 1985 season, TDB led the field of play against DJB & LEB. After his victory, TDB said: “I took last year off from GM competition because I wanted to give others a shot at the glory and a chance to win the Golden Jacket. I did play on several small tournaments in Europe and South America, but quite frankly, the fields of play and level of competition were not up to par with our home course at Chez Nous. I’m seriously considering the franchising of GM courses
“I’m looking forward to winning the Golden Mallet for the 5th time this year – which is the 15th season of Golden Mallet play.”
TDB is the four time winner of the Golden Mallet, member of the Golden Mallet Hall of Fame (only member), Holder of the Golden Mallet Shot of the Year Award, Grand Master of the Golden Mallet, Chief Justice of the Court of the Golden Mallet, General Manager and Director of Player Operations for the Professional Golden Mallet, President and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chairman of the Board and Commissioner of the Golden Mallet.
Beeby also said that, “GM competition teaches our youth sportsmanship and humility”.

1. Re TDB’s “election” to GMHOF: the rule actually is that GMHOF status automatically accrues only to one who wins the GM in three successive years. (EAW agrees). [initials of EAW and RHB? + smiley face]. 2. Proposed criteria for GM award appear suitable. In my opinion it should only be bestowed posthumously or the equivalent.

(2) Re: the BM award being made posthumously it should be noted that HJB is the only holder of the award + we can take judicial notice that he plays like he was deceased — accordingly he will retain the award — other cases will be decided on their own merits (?). M. LeM was considered for membership in the Fall of Fame for her perfect score and membership was of course denied because of her history of otherwise colorless lackluster play + demeanor unbecoming a member of the GMHOF

On this date upon the alter of eternal gas was reverently placed what shall henceforth be known as the “Order of the Shaft”. It shall be awarded annually, if and as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors to the female judged to have been the recipient of the shaft most unjustly (in the Board’s opinion).
“The shaft shall be of a lithified structure seven to eight inches in length; one to two inches in girth. It shall repose in a very erect posture at an angle of approximately 5° to 8 ° from the perpendicular.” “Semper Regidus” [editor’s note: this should be “Semper Rigidus”, no?]. “The Board can do no wrong”.
The winner shall wear, on an appropriate holiday, a crown inscribed ” She Stoops to Conquer!”

[In TDB’s hand] It would appear that Martha LeMessurier has won the Golden Mallot for calendar year 1977. However it would also appear she is a leading candidate for the “Order of the Shaft” also. GM Regulation 314.21BIa(ii) of course disallows one person holding both honors in one year. The candidate may, at her option, withdrawal from consideration for the Order of the Shaft. This is done by ordering out form GM37821-6 and enclosing $0.15 (no stamps) and stamped self-addressed envelope. The forms to be filled out in suplicate and witnessed by at least one past holder of the Golden Mallet and submitted by certified mail to the secretary within 72 hours of being notified that he or she is qualified for GM & OS. Should this form not be submitted in proper form then the Board of Directors shall decide which if any award will be made to her in their sole discretion.
